On March 28, 2025, Walailak University held a ceremony to commemorate its 33rd anniversary at the area beside the Thaiburi Building and the main auditorium of the Thaiburi Complex. The event featured multi-faith religious activities, the conferral of royal decorations before the portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, as well as the presentation of honorary awards to staff and outstanding alumni.
Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, together with Mr. Teerachai Chamnassiri, Chairman of the University Council, presided over the ceremony. The day began with a Buddhist merit-making ritual, including almsgiving to 33 monks and the dedication of merit to the late Professor Dr. Vijit Srisa-arn, as well as deceased faculty members, staff, and students. The program also included Islamic prayers (Dua) and Christian blessings, offering auspiciousness to administrators, staff, and students.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of the Royal Decorations for the year 2024 before the royal portrait of His Majesty the King. The awards recognized staff members for their dedication, perseverance, and loyalty. These included two recipients of decorations with sashes, 54 recipients of decorations below the sash level, and 18 recipients of the Direkuna Phon Decoration. In addition, 31 staff members who completed 25 years of service received commemorative gold rings, while 4 staff members with over 30 years of service received special souvenirs. Furthermore, four distinguished alumni were presented with honorary plaques.
The Asset Management Center of Walailak University proudly joined the celebration and expressed its congratulations to staff members under its division who received royal decorations, recognizing this as one of the highest honors in public service. It symbolizes their devotion, sacrifice, and determination in continuously advancing the university.
During the event, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong delivered a welcome address and summarized the university’s achievements over the past year. He emphasized the university’s goals to elevate its academic and physical development to international standards, striving to make Walailak University one of the most beautiful campuses in Thailand while excelling in academic quality.
Mr. Teerachai Chamnassiri, Chairman of the University Council, also offered his congratulations on the anniversary. He highlighted the university’s growth as a multicultural institution and reaffirmed the importance of ethical management practices to ensure staff well-being. He further set a vision for Walailak University to become one of the top five universities in Thailand in the near future.
